food court people is a boundary-pushing indie duo, composed of Hannah and Marc LeGrand. Hailing from opposite corners of the U.S.—Hannah from Western New York and Marc from the Bay Area—they first crossed paths in a rural New York music school, where their shared passion for instrumental performance sparked a creative partnership. As instrumentalists first and foremost, their songs prioritize the abstract emotional power of sound. Their lyrics often emerge organically from the moods and textures evoked during their musical explorations.

Their journey together took a transformative turn during the 2020 pandemic, when they began writing and producing music as collaborators. Their production work on Girl Love’s self-titled debut album (2022-2023) refined their approach to songwriting and solidified their sound. By 2024, they had built their own home recording studio, the foundation for executing their artistic vision. It wasn’t until mid-2024, however, that their artistic voice fully materialized, giving rise to food court people.

Marc’s roots in improvised music intertwine seamlessly with Hannah’s classical upbringing, creating compositions that are rich and deeply evocative. Their curiosity of sound design and global musics fuel their innovation, leading to songs that defy categorization yet remain emotionally resonant. Their message tackles universal yet intimate themes like mortality, growing pains, and the beauty hidden in everyday moments. At its core, food court people aims to connect listeners to profound truths, allowing their music to be a conduit for reflection and connection.

Beyond their music, Hannah and Marc’s DIY spirit is an integral part of their ethos. From converting a van for cross-country adventures to constructing their recording studio under their bed, their ingenuity and hands-on approach to life bleed into their creative process.
